Description

LANEAST LANEAST SX 28 SW 4/169 Barn at West Barton Court - GV II

Barn. Early - mid C19, with few later alterations. Slatestone rubble with stone dressings. Half-hipped rag slate roof with ridge tiles. Plan: Bank barn, built into the bank at the rear. There are shippons at ground floor, with three entrances at the front; loft over, with access at upper ground level to rear. Exterior: 2 storeys, nearly symmetrical front. There are three doorways at ground floor, with segmental stone arches, the doorway to right blocked, with C20 window inserted. The doorways alternate with ventilation slits. At first floor, there are double doors with timber lintel, set off-centre to right. There are two windows to left, with cambered stone arches, one with shutters and one blocked; one similar window opening to right, blocked with corrugated iron. The right end is blind. The left end has plank door with pentice hood at upper level, the pentice in corrugated iron. At the rear there are central double doors with the posts for a pentice; blocked window with timber lintel to left; two windows to right, one blocked and one with wooden ventilation louvres. Interior: Not inspected.
