Description
The barn at West Barton Court is an early to mid 19th century structure with few later alterations. It is built from slatestone rubble with stone dressings and features a half-hipped rag slate roof with ridge tiles. The barn is designed as a bank barn, integrated into the bank at the rear. The ground floor contains shippons and has three entrances at the front. Above, there is a loft with access from the upper ground level at the rear.
The exterior is nearly symmetrical and has two storeys. The ground floor features three doorways with segmental stone arches, although the doorway to the right is blocked and has a 20th-century window inserted. The doorways are alternated with ventilation slits. On the first floor, there are double doors with a timber lintel, positioned off-centre to the right. To the left, there are two windows with cambered stone arches; one has shutters while the other is blocked. To the right, there is a similar window opening that is also blocked, this time with corrugated iron. The right end of the barn is blind, while the left end has a plank door with a pentice hood at the upper level, the pentice made of corrugated iron. At the rear, there are central double doors with posts for a pentice, a blocked window with a timber lintel to the left, and two windows to the right, one blocked and one fitted with wooden ventilation louvres. The interior has not been inspected.
