Description
This is a barn located approximately 100 meters east of Barton House, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations. The barn is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof. It has eight bays and includes two gabled porches with high openings that have exposed timber lintels, with the left porch now blocked. There is a later pedestrian doorway also blocked, and an unglazed two-light window in the gable above. Inside the left and right porches, there are rectangular niches approximately 1.5 meters above the ground. The central porch has half-height plank doors.
The barn has a butt-purlin roof with principals that have curved braces on the right side. The ridge purlin has been partly replaced by a ridge plank. The five bays to the left have been converted into a fives court, with a gallery inserted, and some braces have been removed. Some trusses retain double collars, and the rafters are halved together at the ridge. On the left side, there is a pair of double doors with a chamfered lintel that has a diagonal-cut stop.
