Description
38 Cecily Hill is a mid-19th century house with early 20th century alterations, including an oriel window dated 1909. The building is constructed of coursed squared limestone and features a stone slate roof with a stone stack at the right end.
The front facade has two small gables and is arranged over two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a two-window range. On the first floor, there is an early 20th century three-light metal window with leaded lights under a flat arch to the right, and an oriel window to the left. The oriel has a rendered base, an elaborately carved timber apron with the initials and date WHS 1909, a carved timber cornice, and similar leaded lights. Above the gables, there are two 2-light 20th century windows with leaded lights under flat arches with dripmoulds.
The ground floor features a 20th century bay window with leaded lights in a deep recess under a flat arch to the left, and a similar three-light window under a flat arch to the right. The entrance includes a five-panel door with an overlight set in a timber doorcase with attached Corinthian columns supporting a cornice adorned with carved strapwork decoration to the right. Moulded strings run over the ground and first floors.
Inside, there is an oak closed string staircase with barleytwist balusters, and an early 20th century chimneypiece in a revived classical style, complete with contemporary tiles and a grate in the front left of the ground floor. The alterations to the front facade are said to have been carried out by William Saunders using his own carpenters.
