Description
This barn, located approximately 20 metres west of West Molland Barton, dates from the mid to late 17th century and has undergone minor alterations in the late 20th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble, with a section of cement render added to the west side. The roof is gable-ended and covered with Welsh slate. The barn is aligned roughly north-south and is adjacent to a stable block to the north, forming one side of a stable courtyard.
The exterior features cart entrances on both the front (west) and rear, each with pairs of large boarded doors and wooden lintels, although the doors have been removed from the front entrance. There is also a small doorway at the rear (east) that has a heavy 17th-century deep-chamfered wooden frame, which may have been reset, featuring pegged mason's-mitred joints and a wooden lintel. Inside, the barn has openings with splayed jambs and a six-bay roof supported by trusses with principal rafters and lapped collars, along with three pairs of purlins.
