House Adjoining The Old Cartaret Arms At The West

This house, which was formerly part of a poorhouse, is located next to the Old Cartaret Arms in Kilkhampton. It dates from the 17th century and was remodeled in the 19th century. The building is rendered and colourwashed with slatestone rubble and features a slate roof. There are brick chimneys at both ends, with one made of local brick next to the room above the cart entrance that separates this house from the Old Cartaret Arms. The roof has early handmade ridge tiles above the cartway.

The house is two stories tall and has a four-window range with an off-centre entrance beneath a sloping slate roof. On the ground floor, there are three two-light timber casement windows with slate sills, featuring six panes per light, except for the right window which has eight panes per light. On the first floor, the left window is a two-light timber casement with six panes per light, the middle window is a three-light timber casement with similar panes, and the right window is also a two-light timber casement with six panes per light. Above the cart entrance, there is another two-light timber casement window with six panes per light. The interior has not been inspected.
