Description
No. 2 The Parade is a town house built in the 18th century and refronted in the mid-19th century. The exterior features stucco on masonry with channelled rustication on the ground floor and a dry Delabole slate roof. It has a central original roof dormer with a 9-pane sash window and a moulded cornice along the deep front eaves soffit. There is an octagonal stair hall lantern located behind the lower ridge on the left side. The building has a double-depth plan that fronts a much older rear wing. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. The original hornless sashes with glazing bars are framed by eared architraves on the upper floors, while the first floor features moulded cornice hoods above a tall entablature and sill brackets. The ground floor includes two round-headed sashes on the left and centre with fanlight heads and plain bottom lights, as well as a porch on the right with a round-headed doorway that has an incised key pattern on the pilasters and a moulded entablature above. The door itself has nine panes over two panels and a fanlight above. There is a three-window right-hand return with attic windows in the gable. The rear wing has a steep roof and lateral stacks. Inside, the property contains many mid-19th century features, including a curved well staircase and a segmental stair arch with incised pilasters and soffit.
