Description
No. 24 The Parade is a town house with a later shop, dating from the 18th century, though it may have an earlier core. The front is rendered and features stucco moulded parapet cornices. It has an asbestos slate mansard roof with two dormers that contain early 19th century hornless sash windows with thin glazing bars. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys plus an attic, with a three-window range. The early 19th century windows on the first floor are 12-pane hornless sashes, set within moulded architraves. The ground floor features an early 19th century double shopfront with a fascia and moulded cornice, supported by slender panelled pilasters. The shop doorway is located to the right of centre, while the former house doorway at the far left is now used as a display window. The interior has not been inspected in detail, but it is noted to contain an early 18th century dog-leg staircase with a moulded closed string, a moulded handrail over turned balusters, square newels, and a panelled dado.
