Description

Parade House is a large town house, now used as an office, built in the mid 18th century. It features painted coursed rubble with a plinth and mid-floor band, a hipped dry Delabole slate roof, a modillion eaves cornice, and cast-iron ogee gutters. The building has a double-depth plan, two storeys plus an attic over a basement, and a symmetrical five-window front. The late 19th-century two-pane sash windows are set under flat arches with keyblocks. A central round-arched doorway leads to a distyle Tuscan porch with engaged columns, featuring a panelled door with a plain fanlight. The inner door has a glazed upper panel with margin panes and similar sidelights, and there are semi-circular steps leading up to the porch. To the left-hand return, there is a reset 17th-century basket-arched granite doorway. The building has two roof dormers with mid 19th-century nine-pane sashes and cornices.

Inside, the property retains a mid 18th-century dado and modillion cornice in the entrance hall and the right-hand room, a segmental stair arch with fluted pilasters, and a main stair with a closed string and mahogany handrail. The back stair features panelled newels and heavy turned balusters, with a moulded cornice in the left-hand room.

The subsidiary features include an attached ashlar forecourt wall on the left, a low rubble wall with granite copings at the front, and wrought-iron railings with arrow-head finials.
