Description
The Fountain Hotel is a public house that underwent significant remodeling in the mid-19th century, likely transforming a house from the 18th century. It features a stucco exterior on studwork and has a dry Delabole slate roof that is hipped on the right side. The building has a very deep plan, including a substantial wing at the rear. It stands three stories tall and has a three-window range. The exterior is characterized by rusticated quoins and moulded stucco architraves surrounding later 19th-century four-pane horned sash windows. The second-floor windows are segmental-arched and have sill brackets. The ground floor has been remodeled in the early 20th century, featuring two five-light transomed bowed windows with leaded glazing. There are two doorways, one to the left of the right-hand window and another at the far left, both flanked by pilasters. A full-width moulded entablature with a fascia is positioned above the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected.
