Description

The fountain, built in 1871, is designed by Henry Rice. It features dressed granite with elvan and freestone corner buttresses, arranged in a square-on plan. The fountain has a carved cornice at its stepped top, which is topped by an ornate turned cast-iron lamp-post supported by four arched feet. The west side has a pedimented doorcase, while the other sides have pedimented aedicules that include drinking bowls. This fountain is an important element in the streetscape.
