Description
This cottage, located about 90 metres south of Boscawen Rose Farmhouse, is a small house dating from the mid-19th century, with later 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of granite rubble with a dressed granite front wall and features an asbestos tile roof with gabled ends. The gable end stacks are made of dressed granite, with the right-hand stack being larger.
The building has a double depth plan, consisting of two principal rooms at the front, likely with an entrance passage between them leading to a staircase in a projection at the rear. There are probably shallow service rooms at the back. A large single-storey outshut from the late 19th century is located at the rear, along with another outshut at the right-hand end.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window south front. It features large 19th-century six-pane sash windows with vertical glazing bars, all set in openings with granite lintels and granite sills. The central doorway is plain, with a granite lintel and a 20th-century glazed door. The single-storey outshut at the right-hand end is made of granite rubble and has a hipped scantle slate roof, with a doorway and a casement window at the front. The rear elevation includes a rectangular stair projection to the right of centre and a 19th-century six-pane sash window on the first floor to the right. The large rear outshut is also made of granite rubble, featuring a hipped asbestos tile roof, small casements with glazing bars, and a plank door. The interior was not inspected.
