Description
Tremeddan Court is a suburban villa, built between 1819 and 1820 and designed by W Jope. It has been converted into seven flats. The building originally had stucco on a masonry base, but this has since been replaced with rendering. It features a hipped roof covered in Delabole slate, with projecting eaves supported by wooden brackets, and two rendered axial stacks.
The design follows a symmetrical, double-depth plan and is executed in a Classical style. The two-storey front is symmetrical with seven windows. A taller, three-bay, pedimented central block is flanked by single-bay links and nearly symmetrical pavilions. The central entrance has a pair of six-panel doors with sidelights, a Tuscan porch supported by paired columns, and a moulded architrave with patterned glazing. Original hornless sash windows with glazing bars remain, although some have been replaced in the 20th century. The pavilions have first-floor windows offset towards the middle, and ground-floor windows positioned at the far left and far right. Three-window returns are also present.
The rear garden front mirrors the entrance front in design, but includes a two-storey bowed window with a three-light over a five-light configuration, featuring blind sidelights and an incised anthemion detail above the first-floor window. The pavilions at the rear are blank. The interior of the building has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
