Description
This is a large town house, dating from 1776, which has been altered, heightened, and extended in the 20th century. It is now used as offices. The exterior is faced with Newham stone ashlar, featuring a plinth, sill strings, a mid-floor band, and a moulded cornice to the parapet. A rendered additional storey sits above the parapet, topped with a hipped roof of asbestos slate. The building has a large overall plan, including a 20th-century extension on the right side and a deep wing to the rear left. The original front of the house is two storeys high, with a basement, and is arranged symmetrically with a 1:1:1 bay layout. The central bay contains the entrance, flanked by wide three-light canted bays. Later 19th-century windows with hornless panes are present; the ground floor bays have round-arched central lights, while others feature flat arches. The original doorway is round-arched, with an open pediment, engaged Tuscan columns leading to an entablature, and a petalled fanlight above an altered panelled door. A five-bay extension sits above with windows having 20 panes each. A one-bay, pastiche extension is on the right side, incorporating a letterbox. The rear of the building showcases an original Venetian stair window. Inside, the entrance hall has an original moulded ceiling cornice with dentils, while the stair hall features a moulded ceiling cornice and a Doric frieze to the stair window. The forecourt walls are built with granite ashlar and topped with wrought-iron railings, with close-set bars doubled towards the bottom and arrow-head finials. A basement gate is located on the right side of the forecourt.
