Description
No. 40 Church Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the mid-19th century. The building features a stucco front on studwork, an asbestos slate roof with slightly projecting eaves, a brick stack on the right, and a cast-iron ogee gutter. It has a fairly deep plan and stands two storeys tall with a two-window range. The original 12-pane hornless sash windows are set within moulded wooden architraves. The house doorway on the left has an original four-panel door with an overlight. The shop front retains its original eight-light transom, slender mullions, and basket-arched lights, including splayed return lights to the central doorway, which has a panelled and glazed door with an overlight. The ends of the shop front are flanked by panelled pilasters with consoles and a moulded entablature with a fascia. The interior has not been inspected.
