Description
No. 48 Church Street is a town house built in the early 19th century. It features granite and Elvan ashlar with rusticated quoins, a mid-floor string course, and segmental arches. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and is hipped on the right side. The house has stuccoed panelled stacks with octagonal shafts at the front corners and a brick stack on the left. The building has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high, with a regular two-window range on the street front and a symmetrical three-window garden and entrance front on the right-hand return. The windows are 20th-century twelve-pane horned sashes, and the garden front has blind windows except for a central sash above the doorway, which features panelled reveals and a six-panel door. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
