Description
Hartford Manor is a house from the late 18th century that has been altered and extended and is now used as an office. It is constructed of yellow ashlar stone and features a hipped grey slate roof. The building has two storeys and five windows. The symmetrical front includes a slightly bowed central bay and a projecting Roman Doric portico with a flat entablature. There are two-window rooms on each storey flanking the portico. The entrance has curved hardwood double doors, each with three fielded panels. The exterior includes a plinth with a moulded top, a plain band at the first floor, and a stone frieze and cornice at the eaves. The doorway is flanked by three-pane sidelights with concave lozenges incised in the stonework below, and there is a segmental fan-light with ornate iron bars above. The lower storey has recessed sash windows with 12 panes, while the upper storey features sash windows with 9 panes. The sash window above the portico has a moulded architrave with an entablature supported by consoles. To the right is a slightly recessed extension from the 1940s, which has facsimile windows and detailing in stucco. The rear extensions are not of interest.
Inside, the hall features three good mahogany doors, each with six fielded panels and carved mouldings, along with panelled cases and shouldered architraves. There is a dogleg open-string staircase with shaped brackets, a swept mahogany rail, and straight moulded balusters, although some have been altered. Upstairs, there are two six-panel doors in panelled cases.
