Description
Hunt's Locks consist of a pair of locks on the Weaver Navigation, built around 1860 and 1890. The locks are constructed of stone with timber lock gates set within steel frames. The smaller, eastern lock has partially rusticated side walls. The larger, western lock is divided into two chambers by three pairs of gates. Curved stone wing walls extend upstream. The locks are complemented by a pair of steel semaphore signals at each end and include Pelton turbines and cast iron bollards. The site represents a complete and well-preserved example of locks designed to handle seagoing ships.
