Description

This is a terrace of cottages built in the early 19th century, reportedly in 1816 by the Blanchminster Charity. The terrace comprises numbers 2 to 30 (even), including the front pavement. The construction is of roughcast stone rubble, with rag slate roofs; gabled ends are visible at varying heights, with asbestos tiles on numbers 18 and 30. Brick gabled end stacks are present. The original plan likely involved double-depth cottages, with the principal rooms facing the front and service rooms at the rear. The building presents an asymmetrical 17-window façade. The windows are small sashes with glazing bars; original 16-pane sashes remain at numbers 10 and 12. Small ground floor bay windows with sashes are found at numbers 8 and 24. C19 and C20 glazed doors are set into slate door steps. The rear elevation of numbers 18 to 25 features a slate-hung first floor. A pitched cobble path extends in front of the cottages. The interiors were not inspected.
