Description

The sea lock, lock gates, and hand winches were built in 1819 and are designed by the engineer James Green. The structure serves as the entrance to the Bude Canal from the sea. It features stone rubble walls with granite coping stones, which are rounded at the seaward end and include courses of granite. The walls are rebated for two pairs of timber lock gates, which have been replaced. Additionally, there are cast iron hand-winches for each sea gate, set within two-centred arch frames.
