Description
Nanny Moore's Bridge is a packhorse and cart bridge that spans the River Neet. It dates from the 18th century or earlier and is constructed from stone rubble. The bridge features three spans with segmental arches, each adorned with keystones and cutwaters on both sides. At the southern end, there is a cantilevered section that allows boats to pass beneath. The bridge does not have parapets. Nanny Moore's Bridge leads to the site of Efford Mill, a tidemill established in the late 16th century by the Arundells of Trerice. A contemporary account of the Battle of Stamford Hill in 1643 mentions a "passe" over the river at Efford Hill, which may refer to a ford. An 18th-century watercolour depicts the bridge and a pontoon. Originally known as Bude Bridge, it was renamed in the 19th century after a dipper who lived in a nearby cottage.
