Description

The War Memorial is a First World War memorial, with additional inscription panels for the Second World War, dating from around 1919. It is constructed of granite ashlar and features a large squat obelisk set on a chamfered base. The base of the obelisk includes inscription panels, with those for the First World War being integral to the structure, while the Second World War panels are applied. At the top of the obelisk, there are carved panels that depict the symbols of Sacrifice, Endurance, Victory, and Courage. The obelisk is topped with a sculptured granite stylized eternal lamp on a moulded base. Bronze lettering and a bronze frieze of laurels are applied to the granite at the top of the obelisk.
