Description

The Breakwater is a harbour wall constructed between 1839 and 1843 by George Casebourne, engineer to the Bude Harbour and Canal Company, to a design by James Walker. It is built of stone rubble and features a low wall with a deeply battered profile, standing four feet above the high water mark of spring tides and forming part of the harbour defences. This breakwater replaced a previous structure, built in 1819 for the Company, which was destroyed by a storm in 1838.
