Piers And Quays

The pier and quays at East Looe date from the 18th and 19th centuries, with construction likely completed around 1853 and the pier end added in 1899. The earlier sections feature some vertically-set rubble, while other parts are made of horizontally-coursed rubble. The pier itself has a shallow-battered design with vertical rubble, except for its round end, which is constructed from granite ashlar. Together with the quays at West Looe, these structures enclose what was once a significant commercial harbour, which was primarily responsible for the export of ore and granite during its peak activity in the mid-19th century, facilitated by the Liskeard and Looe Railway.
