Description

Lerryn Cottage and The Galleon form a town house, later adapted for pilchard pressing, dating from the 17th century. It’s located in East Looe, and incorporates a probable former fish cellar, later used as a net store. The building is constructed of painted rubble with oak lintels, topped with a steep roof of asbestos slate. A brick stack rises from a corbelled rubble section on the right side. The layout is a double-depth plan, including an integral outshut to the rear.

The building is two storeys high plus an attic, and has a three-window facade. It features 20th-century casement windows, some with glazing bars. A deeply-set window is positioned below the central window, and there’s a 20th-century glazed door at the extreme right. On the right-hand return, a flight of painted rubble steps with slate treads lead to a late 19th or early 20th-century lean-to porch on the landing.

Inside Lerryn Cottage, original features include chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, pegged lapped collar trusses, and an early 19th-century staircase balustrade.
