Description

Tudor Cottage and Tolva are a pair of town houses forming part of a row, dating from the 17th century. Originally a single L-shaped building, it was later extended at the front of Tolva. The building is constructed of painted rubble with asbestos slate hanging to the Tolva section, featuring a steep asbestos slate roof with a hip on the right side and a 20th-century dormer window on the left. The rear has a rendered stack to Tolva and a slatehung gable to Tudor Cottage. The overall arrangement is of a three-window range. Tudor Cottage has an early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash window, and an entrance with a 20th-century door on the right. Tolva has 20th-century replacement windows.

Inside Tolva, the first floor retains a 17th-century ceiling with chamfered oak joists, alongside remnants of a chamfered oak beam and joist ceiling within the basement. There are lateral fireplace structures, and the basement (now at ground floor level) features a chamfered oak lintel. A simple winder staircase and the feet of what is likely the original roof structure remain visible. Tudor Cottage similarly has 17th or 18th-century ceiling joists.
