Description
The harbour walls, wharfs, quays, and slipways on the east side of Stonehouse Pool date from the late 18th century and 19th century. They feature battered walls made of Plymouth limestone rubble, with some sections set vertically. The older parts and areas that have been heightened include limestone dressings, while the majority are constructed with coursed limestone. The structures have dressed quoins and copings. The harbour walls are accompanied by slipways, quays, and wharfs that extend into the pool, including Stone Hall Quay, Brunswick Wharf, Lucas' Wharf, Strand Quay, Freemans Wharf, and Admiral's Hard, which projects significantly into Stonehouse Pool, becoming visible only at low tide.
