Description
The railings along Durnford Street are part of the Royal Marine Barracks in Stonehouse, Plymouth. They were constructed around 1865 and designed by Colonel G Greene, who was the Director of the Admiralty Works Department. The railings feature a dressed Plymouth limestone plinth topped with cast-iron railings that have arrow-head shafts. The stanchions are adorned with ball finials, each topped with a crown and a lion. These railings contribute to the overall architectural significance of the barracks, which is a well-planned group that includes the Archway block.
