Description

Numbers 68 to 78 form a planned terrace of houses, likely dating to 1807, with a rainwater head bearing that date to Number 78. The front of the terrace is stuccoed, while the rear elevations of Numbers 72 to 78 are slate hung. The roofs are of slurried slate and dry slate with a dentilled eaves cornice, and feature large brick end stacks. The houses follow a double-depth plan, with a large principal room at the front and the entrance hall to one side, accompanied by rear service wings.

The exterior presents two storeys plus an attic, with each house featuring a three-window range. The windows are late 19th or 20th century horned sashes; those at Number 78 have glazing bars. Numbers 72, 74, and 78 have pilastered doorways topped with blind fanlights to open pediments, while Number 76 has an entablature instead of a pediment. These doorways have panelled doors and reveals. Number 68 incorporates an enclosed entrance porch to its right-hand return. Original three and four-storey semicircular bay windows with fluted pilasters are present at the rear of Numbers 72 to 78.

The interior remains uninspected, but is likely to contain features of interest.

The terrace includes low plinths on the basement walls, surmounted by wrought-iron railings with urn finials and steps leading to the entrances. The property forms part of a planned late Georgian street, laid out in 1773.
