Description

NUMBER 84 AND 86 AND ATTACHED FORECOURT WALLS AND RAILINGS

These are part of a planned terrace in Plymouth, likely dating to around 1807, confirmed by a date on a rainwater head on a nearby property. The buildings are stucco-faced with dry slate roofs featuring a dentilled eaves cornice, and contain two hipped roof dormers; an original cast-iron rainwater head is located on Number 86. They have a double-depth plan, with each house containing a large room at the front, an entrance hall to one side, and service wings at the rear.

The buildings are two storeys with an attic over a basement, and each house presents a three-window range. They feature late 19th or 20th-century four-pane sash windows with horns, pilastered doorways, blind spoked fanlights above the doors, and panelled door reveals. The interior remains uninspected but is considered likely to hold interest.

The property includes low plinths on the basement walls, surmounted by wrought-iron railings with urn finials. The terrace forms part of a planned late Georgian street layout from 1773.
