Description
Numbers 85 to 93 form a planned terrace of houses dating from the late 18th century, located on Durnford Street in Stonehouse, Plymouth. The facades are stuccoed, with numbers 87 and 93 finished in slate. They have steep slate roofs, with number 91 featuring fluted eaves, dormers, and large brick end stacks. The houses follow a double-depth plan, with a reception room at the front, an entrance hall to one side, and service wings at the rear. Each house is two storeys high with an attic over a basement, and has a two-window front. Numbers 85, 87, and 89 have sash windows with glazing bars, while the others have later 19th or 20th-century horned sashes. The original doorways have pilasters, blind spoked fanlights, panelled doors and reveals. The doorcase of number 91 has been removed, and number 87 has a late 19th-century pilastered doorway with a moulded hood on consoles, architraves, and an impost string to the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The terrace includes low plinths on the basement walls topped with wrought-iron railings incorporating urn finials. The terrace was part of a planned late Georgian street layout dating from 1773.
