Description

The lychgate, built in 1881, is located approximately 20 meters north of the Church of St Mawnan. It is constructed from granite and killas rubble, featuring granite dressings and a scantle slate hipped roof with clay ridge tiles. The lychgate has a rectangular plan with side walls only, which return to enclose stone benches. Inside, there is a central coffin rest flanked by grid stiles. The exterior is single-storey with a simple design, including wide central openings at both the front and rear. At the front, there are a pair of low open-panelled wooden gates. Above the front opening, there is an inscription in Cornish that translates to "It is good for me to draw nigh unto God."
