Description
This building, located immediately east of the lychgate, is possibly a detached vestry dating from the late 19th century. It incorporates a late medieval doorway, likely from the 16th century, and a door from the late 16th or early 17th century. The structure is made of killas rubble with granite dressings and features a scantle slate roof with plain barge boards at the gable ends, along with crested and plain clay ridge tiles.
The building has a small single cell plan with a doorway at the front gable end. It is a single storey structure. The front (west) gable features a central 4-centred hollow chamfered doorway, possibly from the late 15th or 16th century, with steep pyramid stops that may have been reused from the church. The door itself is 4 panels wide and 3 panels high, with moulded and studded stiles, muntins, and rails. The tympanum panels are inscribed with the Roman letters RPJT, which may refer to John Trevilian, a rector from 1586. The interior has not been inspected.
