Description
The building is an outbuilding, likely associated with the Old Post Office, converted into a public hall and front area wall. It dates from the early 19th century and was remodeled in the mid-20th century. Constructed of slate stone rubble, it features a rag slate roof with gable ends and a stone rubble rear lateral stack. The rectangular plan building is attached to the lower right gable end of the Old Post Office. Late 19th-century photographs indicate it was originally a shippon, with a doorway on the left and a window on the right. By 1908, the shippon door had been blocked and a window added. In the mid-20th century, the outbuilding was remodeled and partly rebuilt, with a new entrance inserted to the left of center. The fireplace in the rear wall is heated by the rear lateral stack. The building is single storey with an asymmetrical four-window front, featuring a mid-20th-century gabled stone rubble porch lit by a one-light casement to the left of center, along with one two-light casement to the left and three similar windows to the right. The interior has not been inspected. A garden wall, constructed of slate stone rubble in herringbone pattern, is located at the front and dates from the early 20th century. This building and its front area wall are situated near The Old Post Office, one of Cornwall's most recognized historic buildings, contributing to its setting in a particularly sensitive area.
