Range Of Barns About 50 Metres South East Of Lowertown Farmhouse

This is a range of barns located about 50 metres southeast of Lowertown Farmhouse, built in the mid to late 19th century with few later alterations. The barns are constructed of slatestone and elvan rubble, topped with slate roofs featuring ridge tiles and gable ends, and have gable end stacks with brick shafts. The layout consists of a large asymmetrical barn in three ranges: two on the left and one on the right, with an enclosed area between them. The gable ends face the front, creating three parallel buildings, and the two on the right are enclosed at the rear by a screen wall.

The tallest barn is on the left, slightly advanced, with its gable end facing the front. It features an upper loading door with a cranked head set in a pointed arched opening, with a brick stack above. The wider lower gabled barn to the right has a pointed arched two-light casement at ground level and a two-centred arched loading door with a keystone above it, along with a stable door on the right side. There is a 20th-century gabled roof over the open bay to the right. This barn has a depressed two-centred arched double doorway with ventilation slits on either side and a loading door above with a two-centred arched head, along with a gable end stack above.

On the right side, there is a two-light window with shutters and a cranked head, as well as a single door. The left side features three ground floor doorways, with the central one being wider and having a four-centred stone arch. Above, there are three small loading doors with shutters. At the rear, the screen wall encloses two barns and has a gable end on the right. The screen wall includes three upper-level loading doors with triangular heads, the central one having a blocked pointed arched ventilation slit on either side and a small gable above. There is a straight joint to the gable end on the right, with a concrete external stair leading to a similar loading door and a two-light window with a cranked head and shutters. The interior has not been inspected.
