Description

A large range of farm buildings is located to the north-east of St Elvan Farmhouse. The feeding house, or barn, was built in 1845, followed by the cattle house and piggery in 1865, and the potato house in 1882. The buildings are constructed from killas rubble with granite dressings and feature grouted scantle slate roofs, except for the barn, which has a corrugated asbestos roof. The layout of the buildings forms a large evolved plan around three sides of a farmyard.

The barn and its extension, which is likely the potato house, are two storeys tall, while the other buildings are single storey. The farmyard elevations include a trap house with a symmetrical two-window front featuring 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes and a central doorway. There is a cart-shed and stable with two wide doorways on the left, along with a boarded window and doorway on the right. The barn has two windows with shutters, a central loading doorway above a wagon doorway flanked by slit ventilators, and two additional doorways. The barn extension has a first-floor loading doorway with granite steps leading up to a doorway on the right-hand return, which features slate hanging over a wide doorway.

Next, there is a low shippon with four doorways, two of which are blocked, leading to another shippon with three doorways, one of which is partly blocked, and two slit ventilators. Finally, there is a piggery with three low doorways, two of which are partly blocked. Most openings have ledged doors. The horse-engine house at the rear of the barn was not inspected. The original roof structure is visible where inspected.
