Description

Apple Loft, located immediately east of St Elvan Farmhouse, is likely a former apple loft and attached earth closet, dating from around 1840. The building is constructed from Killas rubble with some granite dressings and features timber lintels, at least two of which are reused ships' timbers. It has a corrugated asbestos roof and a small rectangular plan, with stone steps at the right-hand end and a later lean-to earth closet at the other end. The structure is two storeys high, with the front featuring two doorways with ledged doors and a similar door to the loft at the right-hand end. The rear includes a partly-blocked window above the original horizontal-sliding six-pane sash window, which has zinc gauze over the left-hand light. The interior retains its original floor and roof structure with nailed collars. This building is part of a fine and complete farm group.
