Description
No. 52 Church Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from the early 19th century. It features painted brick on the front, with rubble at the rear and slate hanging on the rear wing. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and includes two old raking dormers at the back, with the roof being higher over the stair bay. There are brick stacks at each end. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall, with a three-window range that includes a narrower central window. Keyblocks are present above flat arches over early 19th-century hornless sash windows with glazing bars. The building has end pilasters with moulded cornices and a parapet band.
On the ground floor, there is a large projecting double shop front from the early to mid-20th century, featuring a splayed central doorway and leaded glazing above the transom. To the far left, there is a moulded entablature that survives from an older shop, positioned above an overlight with margin panes and a pilastered doorway that has a moulded cornice and a panelled door. The rear of the building includes late 19th-century horned sashes and an early 20th-century canted bay at the back of the wing. The interior has not been inspected.
