Description
The lodge adjoining the gateway to St Michael's Mount was built in 1885 and is constructed from dressed granite with granite dressings. It features dry Delabole slate roofs with gable ends and has a four-stage stone chimney on the right gable end, as well as an axial chimney over the rear wing. The building has an irregular L-shaped plan with four rooms, including a wing at the rear that contains an octagonal stair turret in the rear right angle and an outshut at the rear left. There is a lean-to porch in the middle of the front and a lean-to sedilia on the left side, which is within the gateway. Designed in the Tudor Gothic style, the lodge is two storeys tall, with some first-floor rooms located partly in the roof space. The east front is irregular, and there is a gateway wall to the left that forms the left wall of the porch. Notable architectural features include a plinth, mullioned windows with hoodmoulds, a chamfered wall-plate cornice, moulded kneelers, and coped gable ends. The porch has a doorway on the left and a two-light window on the right. The reception room on the right has a large four-light window, with a four-light oriel window above it. The interior has not been inspected.
