Description
The Barge House is a former barn that included a shippon until the early 20th century. It was then used as a boathouse for the island's barges and is currently a recruiting point for the National Trust. The building dates from the 18th century and was remodeled or rebuilt around the early 20th century. It has rendered walls and an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. The structure is long and rectangular, featuring five large doorways on the north side, which faces the harbour. It has two storeys and a fairly regular front with nine windows. The doors are 20th-century ledged doors, and the windows are 20th-century 12-pane casement windows. The interior has not been inspected.
