Description
The National Trust shop and restaurant is located in Marazion on St Michael's Mount. Originally built around 1885, it was a mason's yard, carpenter's shop, and sail loft before being converted into its current use. The building features granite rubble with granite dressings and has dry Delabole slate roofs, with a gable end at the front right and hips at the rear.
The layout includes a narrow rectangular cobbled courtyard surrounded by buildings on three sides, with a doorway through a screen wall on the north front. To the left of the courtyard is a single-storey open-sided cartshed, while a two-storey building is situated on the right. There is a link building with steps at the rear, and the former sail loft has been extended in the 20th century at the rear right.
The north entrance front features a screen wall on the left and a two-storey gable end on the right. The courtyard doorway has a two-centred ordered arch, with a smaller doorway to the left. The gable end has a large doorway to the left of the middle and a narrow doorway on the right. There is a central first-floor loading doorway that has been converted into a window. Inside the courtyard, the lean-to cartshed on the left is supported by granite monoliths, and the former carpenter's shop on the right has been remodelled, with most openings featuring horned sashes with glazing bars and ledged doors. The interiors are simple, with structural elements exposed.
