Description
The Lodge to Michaelstow House, built in 1876, is a single-storey and attic structure made of stone rubble with granite dressings. It features a cross-gabled slate roof with gable ends on both sides and at the front and rear, topped with crested ridge tiles. The ornate barge-boards are pierced with trefoils, and there is a brick axial stack located in the center. The plan suggests it may have two rooms heated by back-to-back fireplaces, with the entrance on the right side. A curved projection added in the late 20th century accommodates a staircase on the right gable end.
The front facade is balanced with three bays, where the center bay is slightly advanced and topped with a steep gable that has trefoil-pierced bargeboards. Below this, there is a canted bay window made of granite, featuring a shield in the gable above. To the left of the center bay is a two-light window, and to the right is a doorway, both adorned with hoodmoulds. The plank door has ornate wrought iron hinges and a fanlight above it. The granite mullion windows feature Tudor arch heads, and the doorway is similarly arched. The lodge serves as the entrance to Tregenna House, now known as Michaelstow House, which was built by William Hocken in 1876. The interior has not been inspected.
