Description
The holy well house, possibly of medieval origin, is located to the south of the Church of St Michael. It is constructed from granite and stone rubble and is built into a bank. The structure features a small partly roofed well house with lower walls that surround a larger circular basin in front. The low stone rubble walls to the north of the well house may indicate the remains of a larger building. The well house itself is made of granite ashlar and retains remnants of a stone corbelled roof along with a square well opening. As of the last inspection in 1986, the well was dry and overgrown. According to Quiller Couch in "Ancient and Holy Wells of Cornwall," this well may have been part of a more significant structure, and it is traditionally linked to the ruins of an ancient baptistery.
