Description
Nos. 1-18 and the attached front garden and front retaining walls form a terrace of 18 mostly semi-detached houses built between 1902 and 1905. The design is by Abraham Delbridge, a builder from Camborne. The houses are constructed of stucco, with decorative detailing to the plinths, aprons, architraves, and first-floor sill bands. The roofs are originally scantle slate to Nos. 3, 5, 6, and 13, with simulated slate elsewhere. Brick end stacks are present. The houses are arranged in double-depth pairs, with Nos. 9 and 18 being detached. Each house has two storeys and a three-bay front, with pairs of windows above a pair of doors, and other houses having a central window above a central doorway. Each house features flanking two-storey canted bays. Original horned sashes remain in Nos. 1-5, 7, 10-13, 16, and 17; copies are present in No. 6, with late 20th-century windows elsewhere. Doorways are topped by elliptical arches. Original panelled doors are found in Nos. 10, 11, 13, 16, and 17, while Nos. 5, 7, and 8 have early 20th-century doors with coloured glass, and other houses feature late 20th-century doors. The interiors were not inspected. Additional features include low garden dividing walls and a tall front retaining wall constructed partly of rubble, with a plinth above path level surmounted by some original iron railings. The group value of the terrace contributes significantly to the character of this 19th-century port.
