Description

Higher Drift Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse located in Sancreed. The front is made of granite ashlar, while the rest of the building is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. The roof is covered with grouted scantle slate, although the front has been replaced with asbestos slate. The roof has a half-hipped design on the left and is hipped on the right. There are tall brick chimneys on the side walls and over the gable end of the service wing.

The farmhouse has an overall U-shaped plan, featuring two parlours on either side of a central entrance hall. The deeper best parlour is on the left, with a service room located behind it in a rear outshut stair hall. The shallower parlour on the right has a large pantry behind it, partly in the rear wing, and a kitchen in the wing that is positioned at right angles to the main structure.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical three-window front facing southeast, with a central doorway. There are flat arches above the ground floor openings. The door is from the 20th century, and the windows are early 20th-century six-pane horned sashes.

Inside, there is an 18th-century dog-leg staircase with slender turned balusters, along with some 18th-century two-panel doors.
