Description

SW 62 NW SITHNEY CHURCHTOWN, Sithney 7/297 Gate piers, gate and adjoining outbuildings at approximately 30 metres north east of Church of Saint Sithney GV II

Gate piers, gate and outbuilding, possibly a stable. Probably C18 gate piers, circa early or mid C19 gate and circa early C19 outbuilding. Granite ashlar gate piers with dressed granite copings; wrought iron gate and killas rubble outbuilding with dressed granite lintel and a corrugated iron roof with gable ends. The gateway is rectangular on plan with tall granite ashlar walls as gate piers flanking a grid stile. Chamfered copings. The wrought iron gate has swagged top rail and arrowhead finials to the closely set bars. Adjoining the right hand (hanging) pier is the corner of the outbuilding with its entrance gable end parallel to the orientation of the gateway and with a doorway adjoining the right hand wall of the gateway; at the other corner of this front gable end the wall is rounded.
