Description
The gate-piers, gates, and walls flanking the gateway, located approximately 30 meters northwest of the Church of St Stedian, date from the early 19th century. They are constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. The wide gateway opens through the churchyard wall. Inside the gateway, there are shallow-depth stone settles, and between them is a rectangular coffin rest. The gate-piers are square in plan, made of granite monoliths with rounded pyramidal heads. The settles feature dressed granite seats and low backs, topped with dressed granite copings. The coffin rest has sloping sides. A pair of original wrought-iron gates includes roundels on the lock rail and round-arched bracing below, forming a segmental arch with their top rails when closed. The closely set bars of the gates are topped with arrow-head finials.
