Description

Chynalls Farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century, includes an adjoining outbuilding to the south that was added in the late 18th century. The front of the farmhouse was partly remodeled in the mid-20th century. It features whitewashed rubble walls and a thatched roof with gabled ends, along with a large square stone stack on the right-hand gable end. The building has a T-shaped plan, originally consisting of two cells with a cross passage, and a third room added by the rear projection. It is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical three-window front. The central door is accompanied by a glazed porch under a thatched canopy. A later extension partly blocks the left-hand side of the façade. To the right, there is a wide six-pane sash window, and above, three tall eight-pane sashes with eyebrow eaves. Inside, the farmhouse features scratch-moulded beams and a slightly chamfered reused lintel over the fireplace on the right. The front is enclosed by an early 19th-century courtyard that includes a converted cartshed and dairy, all constructed from rubble stone with scantle slate and Delabole slate roofs. The outbuilding is single storey.
