Description
Reterth Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1829, with later 19th-century additions and a few alterations. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and partly slate-hung. The roof is slate with ridge tiles and gable ends, featuring gable end stacks with rendered and granite shafts.
The building has a double depth plan, with a central entrance leading to principal rooms on the front left and right, each of equal size. The kitchen is located at the rear left, and there is an unheated dairy at the rear right. To the right side, there is a later 19th-century unheated addition with a larder at the front and a second dairy at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. The central entrance features a 19th-century panelled and glazed door set in a round granite arch, with a datestone from 1829 above. There is a 20th-century glazed porch, and 19th-century 16-pane sashes on either side. The first floor has three later 19th-century 4-pane sashes, all windows having cambered granite arches with keystones.
To the right, the lower two-storey 19th-century addition has a half-hipped roof, with two single lights at ground floor and a 4-pane sash with a brick segmental arch on the first floor. The right side features two 2-light 8-pane casements at ground floor and one central casement at first floor. The left side is slate-hung with rag slates. At the rear, there is a central 20th-century rendered porch. To the right, there is a 16-pane sash in the kitchen, with a 12-pane sash and a 16-pane sash above. A central round-arched stair light has glazing bars and radial glazing bars in the arch. To the left, there is a 2-light 8-pane casement for the dairy and a 16-pane sash at first floor, with all windows having cambered granite arches.
Inside, the dairies feature slate floors and slate shelves. There is a dog-leg stair with stick balusters, and at the first floor, a wide segmental arch is located at landing level.
