Description

Lantinning Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of mixed rubble with granite quoins, sills, jambstones, and lintels, while the rear features wooden lintels and is lime washed. The building has a half hipped scantle slate roof with brick chimneys on the side walls. The layout is a double depth plan, likely consisting of a parlour and living room at the front on either side of a through passage, with a stair to the right at the rear of the passage, a back kitchen at the rear right, and a larder on the left.

At the back, there is a single storey wash house with a scantle slate roof that adjoins the pantry, and in the angle between them is a small fuel store or pig house. The farmhouse is two storeys high and features a symmetrical two-window west front with a central doorway. The original four-panel door is sheltered by an open porch supported by posts with a Moorish-arch gable. The horizontal sliding sash windows on the front and rear are all original, with twelve panes and old glass, except for the four-pane replacements on the ground floor of the front.

The single storey wash house has a brick chimney over the gable end and is located at the rear of the pantry, while the small rubble fuel store or pig house has a lean-to slate roof. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be as unspoiled and unaltered as the exterior. It is unusual to find a house that has remained virtually unchanged since it was built, making this farmhouse particularly interesting.
