Description

Lantinning Cottage is a small house, likely dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed with painted cob over a rubble base, featuring wooden lintels and slate sills. The original part of the roof is thatched with wheat reed, with brick chimneys set into the gable ends. A 20th-century single-storey extension projects to the left, topped with a shingle roof. Further extensions to the rear include a gable-ended roof covered in asbestos slates to the rear left and a lean-to with scantle slates to the rear right.

Originally planned as a two-room dwelling, possibly with a cross passage, the internal partitions were removed in the 20th century. An early 19th-century outshut is situated behind the left room, and incorporates a flue inserted into the back wall. The house was further extended to the left in the 20th century. The original part of the house is two storeys high, while the later extensions are single-storey.

The two-bay east front is nearly symmetrical, with a centrally positioned doorway, now fitted with a 20th-century door, and probably original late 18th-century 12-pane horizontal sliding sash windows with crown glass. A thatched hood covers the doorway. Inside, the ceilings have unmoulded beams. The first floor and roof space were not inspected. The cottage occupies a secluded location within wooded surroundings, overlooking Gillan Creek.
